Take an extra firm tofu block. Wrap it with a paper towel or cotton kitchen towel. Press it with a heavy utensil to drain the excess water from the tofu. Now, cut it into small square shapes.
In a pan, heat some vegetable oil, once the oil is hot, add the tofu slices one by one. Make sure the heat is medium throughout. In a few minutes, check if the bottom of the tofu is crisp, if so, flip and pan fry the other side is crisp as well. To season, add some salt, chili powder, black pepper, and garlic powder to the pan. You may use chopped garlic or garlic paste if you don’t have garlic powder. Stir the tofu gently to coat the seasoning well. add a few drops of sesame oil and the tofu is ready.
At this point, you can do go choose to go with a few variations.
Serve the tofu as it is.
Add some chili oil and a few drops of vinegar to make it spicy.
Add some chilli oil,a few drops of vinegar and honey to give it a more sweet and spicy flavor.
To garnish, add some thinly cut, green onion, sesame seeds and a drizzle of chilli oil on top.
